Awesome File Cabinet

My Aunt and Uncle made a double wide file cabinet that is primitive and so nice looking. I can't fit a double wide one anywhere so I asked them to make me one that's a single file cabinet and it came out perfect. It looks so much nicer than a block of metal one. I love it!

New Floor

My Mom and I put in a new vinyl tile floor in the upstairs bathroom (she did most of the work). It's not that the floor we put in a few years ago was bad, in fact, we did a really good job, but my Mom did these tiles in hers and I liked how it came out and she offered to help do mine. I finally decided to just go for it. It looks great and it's fancier with the real grout than just sheet vinyl.

New Stuff

I desperately need more counter space in the kitchen so I got a new island that's bigger than the island cart I had. I found this one and so far it's working great. I like the little display shelves on the sides, but I'll have to find stuff to fill them up. I only have one thing for every day so far.
We made another cover for the coffee machine. It's really big, but I like the boxes instead of looking at the appliances. We also added a top to the toaster oven cover so it looks like the other covers instead of just a rectangle.

Halloween Crafts

I made this candy corn out of leftover yarn. It's cute, but I think the gourd came out better.
The gourd with leftover yarn. I want to make more of these maybe.
The plastic canvas wreath I did for Halloween. I like how it came out and I'm glad I made it, even though I have no places to put anything else.

Extras

I needed a little stool to boost decorations in the downstairs bath, but I was too cheap to pay the price asked for them, so Hubby made me one and a spare out of scrap wood we had from our other projects. Perfect stools, perfect price.
I just got the little shelf with the drawer and star. I haven't found a place for it yet or something to put on it, but I'm sure it will be settled in before long.

Bath Decor

I got a new shelf for the upstairs bathroom. It is a little heftier than the old one to balance the new medicine cabinet.
I was jealous of my Mom and Aunt, who have closets in their bathrooms and don't need a medicine cabinet. They got cute country mirrors for their baths and I was stuck with a non country looking medicine cabinet, until I found a perfect one on ebay. Now I have the same look and also function.

Accidental Perfection

I had a brilliant idea to remove the sub woofer speaker from behind the TV stand and then I could move it back into the corner more so it didn't look like so much empty space behind the new TV cover. We took out the speaker and started to move the stand and the back legs of the stand ripped off. We weren't sure what to do because I figured a new stand wouldn't fit the new TV cover and Hubby said he could try to fix the legs, but I looked under and it was all the same length and I said let's just take the front legs off and put the stand flat on the floor, so we did. It lowered the TV to exactly eye level and the new TV cover doesn't block the shelf on the wall and it looks less bulky in the room. I love it more now! I ordered a candle chandelier to hang over the area to fill in the space behind the TV stand a little. Picture to come...
You may also notice that the curtain on the bottom is half the size it used to be. We decided to upgrade to this decade and get a soundbar and little sub speaker instead of our wired surround sound. We were able to fit it all in the TV cover and remove the receiver from the cabinet. I cut the curtain in half and now have a display cubby too!

New Decor

I got this little shelf last month. I put it in the dining room next to the windows. I added the grapevine wreath to the top.
I added a wreath to the front of the fireplace. I think it adds just enough decoration.

Woodworking and Appliance Covers

We made a cover cabinet for the TV. It came out good, but I didn't realize how big our TV was until we brought the cover upstairs to put over it. I overcompensated a little for the size because all of our previous covers ended up being smaller than I expected because I forgot to consider the width of the wood.
This is the microwave cover. All we have left to cover is the coffee maker. It will be kind of sad not to have any more covers to make.

Last Minute 4th of July Projects

Last week, I decided to make some crafts for the 4th of July. I ordered stuff and it came on time for me to get the stuff out for a few days. I made this wreath for the front door.
I got this cross stitch pattern on Saturday and spent all day Sunday making it. There was no outlining on it, but my fabric was a little too light so I had to outline the sheep and the white stars to make them show.
I was bidding on an arrangement and someone snatched it from me at the last second so I decided to make my own. I think it came out cute.

Living Room Decor

I took this shelf from the dining room and put it in the living room. I was trying to bring down a skinnier black shelf that used to be in the living room before I rearranged it, but it was too deep to look good anywhere. I put it in place of this shelf in the dining room and used that one in here. I got some mustard homespun to put on the shelves. I had to gather a few things from elsewhere to fill the shelves for now.
I got this stool and the one next to the shelf as a set. I added the little rusty star to the middle of both. Of course, I had to get stuff to put on them too.

Bathroom Functional Decor

I got this TP holder on Ebay. It had the star cutout and painted yellow so I thought it was perfect for the downstairs bathroom.
I got this towel holder to go with the new TP holder. It was flopping around a lot, but my Mom suggested the Command picture holders to hold down the bottom and it worked awesome.
I got this TP holder shelf for the upstairs bath. It's cute, but a little too bulky for downstairs use. I will either get another towel holder like the downstairs one, or we'll make one.

Woodworking

We've decided to try our hand at some wood crafts. We made a primitive toaster oven cover with fake drawers. I wish we looked online first so we would have make the top over hang a little, but it was our first major project and it came out good.
My Mom and I saw a recipe holder like this in a catalog, but it was way too big. We replicated it, only smaller. This project took a lot more skill and tools, but they came out really great.

Thermostat Cover

We whipped this thermostat cover up from scraps we had in the basement. I glued a rusty star to the door that I had and I tied a little scrap of homespun to the hook for the door. I put a row of stars on top.

New Decor

I saw people using ladders above islands or sliding doors in a magazine and I liked it, but I didn't really have anywhere to do it except over the kitchen sink. I figure I can change the berry garland to match the Fall/Winter curtains and maybe change what's hanging from the ladder too.
My Aunt has trays with rag balls arranged in them and I liked it so much I made a little one for the sofa table.

New Windows

We got new windows last week. We decided to get the grates on the tops of the front windows. I think they look really nice, but we lost most of our window sills. Hopefully next winter will be warmer.

Shelves and Cubbies

I've been buying shelves and cubbies lately. I found places for them all. The first is a cubby I put in the computer room on one side of a picture to balance it out. I like that it has drawers on the side to stick something out of.
I got this little shelf to put under the seasonal cross stitches I have to go in the hallway. Looks like I'll have to find a Winter one to do now.
This one I put in the living room.

Upstairs Bathroom Redo

I wanted to change the border in the upstairs bathroom, but I decided I should paint before I did that. I didn't love this new tan color as much as the color it was, but it grew on me. I took the doors off the sink cabinet and put up a country style curtain that my Mom had. I think I will be doing the floor over again soon. My Mom did some tiles in her bathroom and it looks so good I want to do mine.
I crackle painted the outside of the old shelf that was there so it would stand out more. It came out pretty decent. I reused all the decorations that were in the room before so it was a cheap redo.

Easter Wreath

This is the Easter plastic canvas wreath I made recently. I think it came out cute.

Spare Bedroom

My Mom and I get a little antsy in the Winter and want to redecorate. I thought I was all set with painting rooms until I saw a pretty blue gray in a magazine and I thought I could do that in the spare room. The color ended up being too dark, but I got a blue a few shades lighter and I love it. It reminds me of the downstairs bathroom blue that I loved for 14 years. I had all the bedding and curtains from our bedroom because I used to use blues with the cool gray and when I painted it over it was a warmer gray so the blue didn't go well. I cleaned everything when I put the room back together so another room is all Spring cleaned. Bonus!

Bathroom Wall

I added a few things to decorate the downstairs bathroom wall. The little washboard and the star. I added the lantern on the shelf and the sign. The jar with the star on it is from the upstairs bathroom and I'm thinking about doing a little update there too.

Bathroom Decor

I bought and made some new decor for the downstairs bathroom. A woman on ebay makes tissue box covers for the big boxes so I had her make me a tan one. I got the star block on ebay too. I bought a large candle ring with greenery and I split it into 2 tins I had. My Mom gave me the little washboard and I put tiny clothespins on the greenery in the big tin. I ordered some more things for the wall in there, but it hasn't come yet. I will post it when I get it.

Crackle Paint

This is my first attempt at crackle painting. I think it came out pretty good and I have a better feel for it now, so I might do more of it soon. I modeled this after something I saw on ebay and I thought it would look good in the downstairs bathroom.

Crafts

My Mom had an old plastic canvas wreath book and I decided to make some of them. I changed a couple a little and did the other two like they were shown. The flower wreath is supposed to be for Mother's Day. I don't know where I'm going to put it, but I thought it was cute. I'm working on the Christmas one now and those two are how they were in the book.
I took the hearts from the 4th of July wreath and made it into a Valentine's wreath instead.

New Bunnies

I had a problem going on ebay a few weeks ago. I won a bunch of stuff. I got this bunny. She's handmade and I'm going to keep her on the teal table in the living room for every day, but she's squeezed into the space with Winter stuff right now.
I also won this bunny. He's handmade and I'm going to keep him out for Spring and Summer because he's adorable and not Eastery.
